Snowbirds Winter Differently

Are you tired of the gloomy, cloudy days up north? Are you sick of shoveling snow? Change your latitude in the winter! Become a snowbird!

You don’t have to be retired to enjoy a dual lifestyle. Many younger people in their 30’s and 40’s spend winters in a warmer climate. They have found a way to work from home or work for themselves in order to escape winter. Why freeze when you can bask in the sun? Live where others vacation!

The winter can drag on forever making us stir crazy. In Florida or Arizona, you can winter differently! Skip winter all together. In South Florida “winter” usually lasts a day or two with temperatures only dipping into the 40’s at night and 60’s during the day for those days. The average temperatures in South Florida for January are around 76°F during the day and around 60°F at night. In Central Arizona, enjoy comfortable days in the high 60’s and crisp nights in the high 40’s, perfect golfing weather!

Spending the winter in a community has great advantages. Most mobile home parks are resort style living communities with plenty of activities to occupy your time. Parks usually have swimming pools, team games, social clubs to join and some have field trips such as cruises. Imagine….you could be sailing in the Caribbean with your friends from the park while your friends up North are shoveling snow!

Another great advantage is having a mostly maintenance free home. By paying a “lot fee”, your outside maintenance is taken care of by the park, so when you’re enjoying the cooler temperatures up North in the summer you don’t have to worry about your home in the South. Some people take advantage of the time when they aren’t using their mobile home by renting it. Many homeowners rent their home on a weekly or monthly basis to vacationers, so they make an income while they aren’t using the home. There are a lot of advantages to owning a mobile home in a resort style living community.

Picture yourself lying on the beach in Florida or out on the golf course in Arizona in January and February. There are more activities to do in the winter months in Florida with low humidity and no threat of hurricanes. You can spend your days outdoors, golfing, swimming, hiking and going to the beach with low humidity sunshine. Florida and Arizona host all kinds of outdoor festivals during the winter months. Enjoy art and food festivals with friends on a regular basis. There are plenty of activities to choose to keep you busy all winter.

Do your research before you decide where to spend your winter months. Most snowbirds love being in Florida or Arizona January through March, but some prefer to just spend a month. You need to decide if you would rather be in Arizona or Florida or possibly another southern state and where in each state. Some people prefer the coast of Florida while others like being a little more inland to enjoy the activities and theme parks.

Each location has its advantages. Chances are, you will love wintering in the South and will continue to return every year.
